Structural Design Technologist
Civil engineering technologists and technicians provide technical support and services to scientists, engineers and other professionals, or may work independently in fields such as structural engineering, municipal engineering, construction design and supervision, highways and transportation engineering, water resources engineering, geotechnical engineering and environmental protection.
Typical Duties:
- Provides design support for structural engineering projects;
- Prepares documents required for client or regulatory approvals;
- Prepares detailed cost, time, and materials estimates based a defined scope of work or needs assessment;
- Employs structural analysis software in the preparation of structural designs;
- Ensures structural designs and specifications are compliant with local codes
- Prepares detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts for projects and ensures their conformance to defined specifications;
- Prepares structural design reports in keeping with industry and engineering profession standards;
- Â Coordinates with other company departments and external stakeholders to ensure that a planned structure integrates with existing structures and other physical infrastructure;
- Inspects structures and conducts technical investigations to compile data for other engineering projects;
- Prepares inspection reports;
Educational Requirements:
Three-year college program in civil engineering technology
