Electricity Distribution Technologist
Electrical and electronics engineering technologists and technicians may work independently or provide technical support and services in the design, development, testing, production and operation of electrical and electronic equipment and systems. They are employed by electrical utilities, communications companies, manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment, consulting firms, and in governments and a wide range of manufacturing, processing and transportation industries.
Typical Duties:
- Designs and drafts site plans for underground electricity systems in new residential developments;
- Designs and drafts overhead electricity distribution systems in keeping with provincial utility codes and standards;
- Undertakes lighting studies for local roadways and highways;
- Provide detailed design and project costing for either newly installed or upgrades of electricity distribution systems;
- Identifies protective device coordination services for generation or distribution systems;
- Liaises with owners, contractors, and other stakeholders to initiate electricity distribution projects;
- Provides technical support and design reviews for electricity distribution projects;
- Coordinates with line crews and contractors or sub-contractors to provide on-site technical support;
Educational Requirements:
Three-year college program in electrical engineering technology
