Construction Technologist
Civil engineering technologists and technicians provide technical support and services to scientists, engineers and other professionals, or may work independently in fields such as structural engineering, municipal engineering, construction design and supervision, highways and transportation engineering, water resources engineering, geotechnical engineering and environmental protection.
Typical Duties:
- Assembles, analyses, and appropriately applies civil engineering data from existing graphics, reports, and other documents;
- Coordinate and facilitates the collection, processing, and interpretation of technical data related to civil engineering projects;
- Communicates information effectively and accurately by analysing, translating, and producing civil engineering documents;
- Ensures that all work is completed in compliance with contractual obligations, applicable law, standards, bylaws, and codes, as well as the accepted principles and practices of civil engineering;
- Manages daily construction activities including renovations and repairs;
- Serves in a project management role;
- Schedules and coordinates civil engineering projects and monitors the quality and quantity of work;
- Assists in planning, designing, inspecting, supervising construction projects;
- Evaluates the methods employed and the use of equipment and materials involved in the implementation and completion of civil engineering projects;
- Employs electronic technology to support civil engineering projects;
- Apply the principles of mathematics and science to analyze and solve technical problems related to civil engineering projects;
- Manages and maintains systems for civil engineering project records and logs;
- Assists in the assessment of the political, social, and environmental impacts of civil engineering projects;
- Facilitates liaison among the project stakeholders involved in the design and implementation of civil engineering projects;
- Investigates new construction methods and technologies.
Educational Requirements:
